Dear Friends of Kids’ Chance of Indiana:

As President of Kids’ Chance of Indiana, Inc., I wanted to provide all our friends and patrons with an update on our organization’s activities and to let you know how much we appreciate your support for our organization.  The important work which Kids’ Chance does for the children and families of Hoosier workers who have been seriously injured or killed as a result of work-related accidents, injuries, and illnesses could not be accomplished without your support and the dedicated work of the twenty one individuals who voluntarily serve as Directors of Kids’ Chance of Indiana.

Kids’ Chance of Indiana provides need-based scholarships, which enable children of killed or seriously injured workers, from throughout the State of Indiana, to attend the college, university, graduate school, technical school, or trade school of their choice.  Since our founding in 1996, Kids’ Chance of Indiana has awarded seventeen scholarships to children of deceased or disabled Hoosier workers.  These scholarship recipients have used Kids’ Chance of Indiana scholarship grants to attend a myriad of different institutions of higher learning, some of which have included Butler University, Indiana Business College, Indiana State University, Indiana University, IUPUI, Ivy Tech, Purdue University, and Valparaiso University.  These scholarships have opened career opportunities in business administration, construction management, athletic training, respiratory therapy, health services, music education, computer graphics, and other interesting and rewarding professions to our scholarship recipients.

Currently, applicants can be awarded up to $6,000 per year, which can be utilized for the payment of tuition, room and board, and utility expenses, as well as for the purchase of books, supplies, computers, etc.  Thus, an applicant graduating from high school would be able to have up to $24,000 of his/her future college expenses, over a four-year undergraduate program, and $42,000 to $48,000, during the pursuit of professional school graduate degrees in areas such as law, dentistry, or medicine, met through Kids’ Chance scholarships.  It would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, for many children of deceased or disabled Indiana workers to aspire to these types of educational pursuits without the benefit of the type of scholarship help that Kids’ Chance scholarships afford.

Fortunately, our organization has continued to be blessed with hardworking Directors, energetic volunteers, and generous patrons from a variety of groups involved in the Indiana’s Workers’ Compensation system.  These groups include employers, attorneys, unions, workers’ compensation insurers, third-party administrators, physicians, nurses, rehabilitation providers, and government agencies, all of whose efforts have allowed us to help meet the education-related financial needs of those children and families of catastrophically injured workers throughout Indiana.  These Directors, volunteers, and patrons, by donating their time, energy, and/or money, allowed Kids’ Chance to continue to be able to grant substantial scholarship awards to every bonafide applicant who requested financial assistance from us.  Our only disappointment over the past year is that we need more interested applicants whom we might have been able to assist.  If you know of a child or a family who might benefit from a Kids’ Chance scholarship, please spread the word.  The “Scholarships” section on this website spells out the basic requirements for recipients and the details about the application process.  In addition, information about our scholarships and the application process can be obtained by contacting:

We are already working to raise additional funds to meet the needs of any Hoosier child who may have been so unfortunate as to have had one of his/her parents killed or seriously injured as a result of a work-related accident, injury, or illness.  We hold an Annual Golf Outing.  This is our single, biggest fundraiser each year and this contributes to up to three scholarships each year.  Please visit the “Fund Raising” area of the website for details as to how you can be involved with this fun and very worthwhile event.

In addition, we have been extremely fortunate to have a number of very generous benefactors whose direct monetary gifts have greatly enhanced our organization’s ability to achieve our goals of assisting students for a Kids’ Chance Scholarship.  Please visit the “Contributors” section of this website to view a listing of individuals and organizations throughout Indiana whose generosity has been so helpful to us in achieving our mission.  And, if you are personally interested in making a financial contribution to Kids’ Chance, please contact us via this website or at (317) 471-0707.

Again, on behalf of all of my colleagues on our Board of Directors, I would like to express our sincere appreciation for your interest, support, and generous contributions to Kids’ Chance of Indiana.  I can assure you that there are many Hoosier children whose parents have been killed or catastrophically injured as a result of work-related accident, injury, or illness who would also like to thank you personally for the educational funding assistance you have allowed Kids’ Chance of Indiana to provide over the past eight years.  With your ongoing support, we know that the future holds many more exciting opportunities for us as we strive to remove financial obstacles, which may impede deserving children in Indiana from achieving their educational goals.
